Football Canvas

Hi everyone! It's time for a new challenge at Through the Craft Room Door. The Challenge runs from Feb. 10 - Feb16. As always, the theme is anything goes. The winner gets a $10.00 gift card from our sponsor...Just Inked.
I was so excited when I saw this Football image. I knew it was something that my son would love. So I decided to make him a canvas to hang in his room.
I printed the image on cardstock, colored it with watercolor pencils and then fussy cut it.

I had an idea of what I wanted the back ground of the canvas to look like but had NO idea how to do it. So, I went to YouTube and found THIS video on how to paint a sky.
I followed the steps in the video to paint the sky and the grass. Keep in mind that you have to work fast during this process so the paint doesn't dry while you are trying to blend it.
these are the steps I took:
1) Gather all the supplies you will need and get them ready...A jar/glass of water, 2 paint brushes (1 to paint with and 1 dry one to blend with), a canvas, Gesso, paints and paper towels.
2) Paint the canvas with water
3) Paint the canvas with your wet paint brush and Gesso
4) Clean the paint brush
5) Starting at the top of the canvas paint it blue (as you move down the canvas the paint will naturally get lighter) Paint a little past where you want your sky to end
6) Take your dry paint brush and lightly brush over your wet paint. This will blend it a little more and helps to remove any lines there might be.
7) Wash out and dry your blending brush

You will repeat the steps above for the grass on the canvas.

Once I had the canvas all painted and dry, I set the image on the canvas where I wanted it and lightly outlined the bottom of it with pencil.

For the shading I blended some green and brown paint together. I took the dry paint brush and lightly dipped it in the paint and then wiped off the excess. I painted the shading over the pencil line on both sides by going in a circular motion. I then placed my image on the canvas to see if I liked the shading. I ended up adding more shading underneath the helmet and calling it good (let dry).

I attached the image by spraying the back of it with E6000 and letting it sit for a few seconds. Then I gently placed it on the canvas flipped the canvas over and rubbed the back of it where the image was to make sure it was secure.
